Rihanna, named one of 2017’s most charitable celebrities, recently helped raise more than $2 billion for global education.
Rihanna and French president Emmanuel Macron were on hand for a Global Partnership for Education (GPE) fundraising conference Friday in Senegal, ABC News reported. World Bank president Jim Yong Kim and multiple African heads of stat were also in attendance.
“We’ve made tremendous progress today, but of course, our work is never done. We have a long way to go and this is a fight that we’re never going to stop fighting until every boy and every girl has access to education.”
Rihanna, a GPE ambassador, said when addressing the conference to “cheers and whistles” from the crowd. According to a tweet from the official account of Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation, Friday’s efforts resulted in $2.3 billion raised for global education.

Rihanna, Manolo Blahnik Partner Again, to Remake Winter Boots
Rihanna’s second capsule collection for Manolo Blahnik is called Savage and was inspired by Timberland boots.
WALKING TALL: Rihanna and Manolo Blahnik have put their heads together once again, creating a collection of winter boots, inspired by Timberland. It’s the second time this year the two have collaborated, following their Denim Desserts debut in May. The new collection, Savage, features three boot styles and launches Nov. 16.
They are inspired both by Rihanna’s penchant for suede and shearling and her love affair with the Timberland work boot. One of the new Savage models, the Fallon, is a rework of the Timberland-style boot that Blahnik first designed — with a stiletto heel — in the Aughts.
It was beloved of the R&B and hip-hop scenes. Beyoncé rocked it in her “Bonnie & Clyde” music video, and Jennifer Lopez also worked the look in the video for “Jenny From the Block.” The latest iteration has furry trim, and comes in shades of ivory and coffee.
The Dominique is a thigh-high sheepskin-lined boot made of black ponyskin, which can also be worn folded at the top. The skin has been laser-cut in a macro floral brocade design, similar to the Marie Antoinette-inspired Fenty x Puma collection Rihanna showcased during the latest Paris Fashion Week.
The Alexis is a knee-length, lace-up with fur trim running around the top and down the laces. It comes in ivory and cinnamon.
Rihanna sent Lopez a pair of the thigh-high, belted 9-to-5 denim boots from her first Manolo Blahnik capsule line. Lopez was so enamored that she gave them a starring role in her “Ain’t Your Mama” music video.
All three styles from the Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik Savage collection are limited and will only be available to purchase in select Manolo Blahnik stores and online at manoloblahnik.com starting Nov. 16.
Rihanna has a series of movies coming out soon, including a role in the upcoming female version of Ocean’s Eleven, titled Ocean’s Eight, and today (November 10th) fans can see her in the new trailer for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Rihanna’s character is supposed to be an alien stripper who works at a bar run by Ethan Hawke’s character. She appears in the trailer for just a moment at the 1:17 mark. In the brief snippet, she approaches Valerian (Dane DeHaan), who appears to be at her place of employment. Rihanna wears a sleeveless tuxedo costume, but when she removes her bowler hat she transitions from the more masculine ensemble into a Marilyn Monroe-type of seductress with a shimmering silver dress and blonde hair.
The film stars DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, who are sent to investigate a galactic empire and battle aliens along the way. Directed by Luc Besson, famous for The Fifth Element and other films, Valerian hits theaters in July 2017.
Rihanna strikes a pose in exclusive first look at her mysterious Valerian role
This beguiling new look at Rihanna is not from a music video off her latest album, Anti.
No, this is a temptation for the teaser trailer drop on Thursday of next summer’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets — a new sci-fi extravaganza in which the the singing icon, 28, has a flamboyant supporting role.
Dressed in a 1920s flapper getup (merely one of several personas she inhabits in the film) Rihanna’s segue into acting is more than a flirtation. She also has upcoming turns as the Janet Leigh character on Bates Motel and as one of Ocean’s 8, but filmmaker Luc Besson was reaching for the stars when he dreamed of her appearing with Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne (who star as intergalactic cops and lovers) in his $180 million epic.
“Rihanna was my first wish,” says the Lucy and The Fifth Element director. “First, because of her voice and the way she smiles and looks and how she expresses herself. Second, because you know she won’t be intimidated on the set. She plays stadiums with 100,000 people. You know that girl isn’t shy about the camera and the crew and all this.”
Rihanna jumped on board, and her 20-plus minutes in the movie promise many surprises. “She was very direct with me,” Besson tells EW. “She said ‘Luc, I want to learn, I want to work. Just let me do it.’ And I must say that she was a great partner and did everything I asked,” Besson says, adding with a laugh, “And believe me — I asked too much.”
Valerian hits theaters on July 21. Stay tuned to EW for the much more coverage on the movie, including the teaser trailer debut on Thursday.
